About this rug

Hand-knotted in the Kunduz region of northern Afghanistan, this newly woven Turkmen rug shows off the plush Ala Bakhmal weave prized for its soft, velvety sheen. Orderly vertical columns of small boteh and stylized floral motifs run the length of a deep madder-red field, worked in warm gold, ivory, and touches of green, then framed by a stack of finely drawn guard borders. The knotting is tight and even, and the lustrous wool pile catches the light differently as you move around it. At roughly 6'8" x 10', it is generous enough to anchor a living or dining room while its warm palette keeps the space grounded. A one-of-a-kind piece, made entirely of hand-spun wool.
