About this rug
The color in this rug is not dyed. The cream ground, the chocolate and the soft taupe are the wool's own natural shades, taken from different sheep and woven together — which is why the tones sit so easily with each other and why they will not fade. Across the ivory field run rows of stepped hooked-cross medallions in brown and taupe, framed by Greek-key and rosette borders. It is an authentic Afghan Kuchi tribal weaving, but the cream-and-brown palette and bold geometry land squarely in the Beni Ourain, Scandinavian and organic-modern look that is hard to find in a genuine hand-knotted piece.
The pile is thick, plush hand-spun wool with a soft shaggy surface that feels substantial underfoot — closer to a Moroccan rug in hand than a flat traditional oriental. As a vintage tribal piece there is honest age character: slight irregularity in the drawing, natural variation in the wool tones, and gentle softening from use. It suits living rooms, bedrooms, and layered spots, lies flat, and takes a rug pad well. Colors may look slightly different depending on your screen and room light.
