About this rug

A characterful vintage Turkmen weaving in the traditional ensi, or hatchli, form — the tribal door rug whose field is divided by a bold cross into four panels. Here the quartered layout sits on a warm camel-brown ground, filled with rows of small candelabra and stylized floral motifs and framed by wide skirt borders of hooked and latch motifs in deep red, indigo, and ivory. Woven by Ersari Turkmen artisans in Afghanistan, it carries the graphic, geometric character collectors associate with these nomadic door rugs. At 5'8" x 7'7", it hangs beautifully as textile art or grounds a cozy seating area. Hand-knotted from 100% wool, one of a kind.
