This vintage Afghan hand-knotted rug is worked in the classical Persian floral manner, built around a lobed central medallion that floats on a deep terracotta-red field. Curvilinear vines, palmettes, and small blossoms fill the ground in coral, rose, gold, and ivory, while navy-blue corner spandrels frame the medallion and a cream floral border ties the composition together. The drawing has the warmth and slight irregularity of a village weave, giving it real character underfoot. Measuring 4'8" x 6'7", it is an easy size for a living room, bedroom, or reading nook.
