About this rug

This newly hand-knotted Turkmen rug from northern Afghanistan showcases the prized Ala Bakhmal weave, known for a dense pile with an almost velvety sheen. Across a deep madder-red field, tidy vertical columns of small boteh and stylized blossoms are picked out in gold, ivory, and soft green, all contained by a run of narrow, finely detailed guard borders. Because the knotting is so tight and even, the surface holds its color with real depth and shifts subtly under changing light. At 6'8" x 10', it has the presence to ground a living or dining room without overwhelming it. Made entirely of hand-spun wool, one of a kind.
