Most Khal Mohammadi rugs are deep red — this one is not, and that is the point. The field is a soft ice-blue, and against it sit rows of dark navy and copper-rose medallions alternating with cross-and-floral motifs, all framed by a wide navy palmette border and copper guard stripes. The pale ground opens the whole rug up, so it reads modern, coastal or transitional rather than heavily traditional, and it works with light wood, linen, greenery and cool-toned walls where a red rug would fight the room. As a hand-woven piece, small shifts in the pattern and color are natural marks of the craft.
The pile is soft, fine wool on a cotton foundation, hand-knotted in the
