About this rug
This hand-knotted Afghan Chobi rug lays fifteen large octagonal Ersari guls, the classic elephant-foot motif, across a warm madder-red field, with small stars, crosses and tribal fillers scattered between them. What sets it apart is the palette: instead of the usual all-red tribal coloring, each gul is filled with soft vegetable-dye tones of sage green, sky blue, apricot, gold, cream and aubergine, so the traditional layout reads bright and modern. Zigzag and hooked-motif borders frame the field, finished with the multicolor candy-stripe fringe that marks a quality Chobi. Gentle color shifts (abrash) across the red ground are a natural mark of hand-dyed wool.
The pile is hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation, hand-knotted in the durable Afghan technique and colored with vegetable and natural dyes. It sits full and even, wears well, and at 5x8 it works as a proper anchor rug for a living room, dining room, or a large bedroom, including higher-traffic spaces. It lies flat, takes a rug pad well on hard floors, and ages beautifully. Colors may look slightly different depending on your screen and room light.
