Hand-knotted by Afghan artisans, this 4'9" x 8'5" vintage wool rug is worked in a Persian-style Hamadan village design. A deep indigo field carries a vertical column of two connected stepped medallions, their serrated edges framed by delicate floral sprays and rows of small tribal motifs. Brick-red spandrels anchor the corners, and a wide red border of linked blossoms and vinework wraps the field. The high contrast between the near-black ground and the glowing reds gives the piece real presence, while the geometry keeps it grounded and unfussy.
