About this rug

A latch-hooked pole medallion runs the full length of this hand-knotted wool rug, stacked in tiers down a densely packed terracotta field. Around it, a scattering of small diamonds, hooks and stylised tribal figures fills every inch of the ground in the spontaneous manner of a Persian-style Shiraz Qashqai design. Serrated ivory and indigo borders frame the piece with repeating geometric bands. Decades of use since the 1930s have softened the wool and mellowed the palette into warm rust, brick and camel, giving the rug a genuine antique character with gentle, even wear. At roughly 4 by 6 feet it is an accent-sized collector's piece, at home in a reading nook, entryway or layered over a larger floor covering. One of a kind.
