A bold and strikingly beautiful vintage Afghan kilim with one of the most dramatic and large-scale geometric compositions in the tribal flatweave tradition — a piece that fills the eye completely and commands any room it enters. The entire field is dominated by a repeating layout of enormous hooked and stepped geometric medallion forms in fiery orange, ivory, and dusty mauve purple, set against a deep dark chocolate brown ground that makes the warm orange tones glow with extraordinary intensity.
The medallion forms are vast and architectural — large stepped diamond and octagonal shapes with deeply hooked and scrolling white edges, each one interlocking with the next both vertically and horizontally so that the entire field becomes one continuous, seamless geometric tapestry. The interiors of the medallions carry nested diamond forms in soft orange, dusty sage, and ivory, while the hooked white scroll borders that define each form give the composition a bold graphic clarity that reads powerfully from a distance. Deep mauve purple fills the spaces between the medallion forms, adding a rich and unexpected accent colour that lifts the warm orange palette beautifully.
Along the lower portion of the field a row of smaller but equally bold geometric medallion forms in ivory, orange, and mauve completes the composition before the border begins.
