This rare rug from the early 1900s wears a Persian-style Hamadan floral medallion design: a sky-blue central medallion floats on a rich burgundy-red field strewn with flowering vines, with matching blue spandrels at the corners and an ivory border of rosettes and meandering stems. Hand-knotted in Afghanistan of pure wool, it has aged into a low pile with the gentle fading collectors look for — colors of burgundy, navy, ivory, tan, soft rust and old gold that glow rather than shine.
