About this rug
Woven around the 1850s, this Tekke-Ersari carpet is the oldest and among the most important pieces in our collection — a palace-sized Turkmen masterwork nearly 170 years old. Elephant-foot guls and rare pictorial motifs cover a monumental 12'9" x 22'5" field in deep red, earthy tan, soft ivory and touches of indigo.
Rugs of this age normally survive only in fragments. To find one at full palace scale, with its composition balanced and legible from end to end, is genuinely exceptional. The weaving is tribal Turkmen work of the highest order.
This is a museum-grade acquisition: functional art for a heritage interior, a serious collection, or a statement installation that will not be repeated.
