Andkhoy, in northern Afghanistan, has long been a center of Turkmen weaving, and this 1980s palace rug shows the town's work at its most ambitious: 10'4" x 16'1" (315 x 490 cm) of hand-knotted wool carrying the classic Bukhara design in rich reds, ivory and earth tones, with bold geometric and tribal motifs throughout.
