A gloriously colourful and intricately woven vintage Afghan kilim of exceptional quality — a piece that overwhelms the eye with richness at first glance and rewards close inspection with an extraordinary density of fine tribal detail. The entire field is covered wall-to-wall in a dense all-over pattern of large and small boteh and paisley forms in rose pink, coral, dark navy, forest green, ivory, and warm gold, woven with breathtaking precision across a shifting two-tone ground that moves from a warm rose pink in the upper half to a deeper, darker navy-brown in the lower half — a natural abrash effect that adds tremendous depth and character.
At the center of this densely packed field sits a small but clearly defined diamond medallion in pale steel blue and ivory — cool and luminous against the surrounding warm field, its stepped edges precisely formed and its interior carrying fine geometric detail. The medallion anchors the composition with quiet authority without competing with the extraordinary all-over pattern surrounding it.
The border is bold and multi-layered — a wide pale steel blue outer frame carries a continuous bold crimson red zigzag wave motif running along both long sides, graphic and energetic. This is flanked on the inner edge by a narrow crimson red stripe with fine ivory detail, and at both short ends a wide crimson red band carries a dense repeating tribal boteh and hourglass motif in navy, green, pink, and ivory — rich and intricately detailed. Natural ivory fringe finishes both short ends.
