A compact and deeply characterful vintage Afghan pile rug in a wonderfully warm and earthy palette of tobacco brown, crimson red, and deep navy — a near-square format that carries a bold, concentric square composition of great tribal sophistication and aged beauty.
The entire composition is built on nested square frames — the central field is a warm tobacco brown ground filled wall-to-wall with a dense all-over diamond lattice repeat of amber and brown diamonds, each cell containing a small navy or ivory cross motif at its center, creating a rich, honeycomb-like texture across the whole inner panel. This central panel is framed by a series of concentric border bands — a narrow ivory zigzag inner stripe, a wide crimson red band, a bold navy and amber diamond repeat band, another ivory zigzag stripe, and a wide outer field band carrying the same all-over diamond and cross lattice pattern — all building outward concentrically like the rings of a target, each layer adding depth and richness to the overall composition.
The very outer border carries a simple flatwoven step and bracket motif in navy and orange at the top and bottom ends — a traditional Afghan finishing technique adding a distinctive textural contrast. Natural camel fringe at both short ends.
