A strikingly elegant and generously long vintage Afghan pile runner with a fresh, open ivory field and a bold all-over repeating floral and boteh composition that gives this piece a lighter, airier quality than the typical dark-ground Afghan runner. The warm ivory ground allows the rich crimson red and deep navy motifs to stand with full clarity and colour — the contrast between the glowing ivory and the jewel-toned forms creating a runner of outstanding visual freshness and warmth.
The field is filled with a continuous all-over repeat of large, loosely organic floral and boteh forms in crimson red and deep navy — rounded, lobed shapes with curling petal extensions and small flower centers, arranged in a flowing vertical repeat that travels the full length of the runner. The forms are bold and generously scaled, with a fluid, naturalistic quality that is less rigidly geometric than most Afghan tribal work — giving the runner a softer, more decorative character. Flanking the central repeat on both sides run vertical columns of fine arrow and cypress tree forms in navy and red, adding structure and frame to the flowing central composition.
The border is well-layered — a wide dark brown and gold outer frame carries a continuous repeating stepped geometric and leaf motif in gold, red, and navy running the full length of the runner on both long sides.
